In Vehicle Test

With increasing development focus on the evolution of new energy sources and powertrains; Froude Hofmann are actively supplying innovative solutions to this demanding test application:

4x4 "all independent" chassis dynamometers - for Hybrid and fuel cell vehicle development.

The unique roll synchronisation control capability of these chassis dynamometers enables various powertrain configurations to be tested in accurately simulated road and operational conditions. This configuration provides a highly flexible test system with 4 individual motor-roll assemblies, whereby all 4 wheels of the vehicle are effectively under independent control. In normal operation all 4 rolls are accurately synchronised to present a "through the road" simulated condition to the test vehicle's powertrain.

Under these conditions the energy flow management strategies of the vehicle will function correctly, and the test will, therefore, be representative. With this highly flexible Chassis Dynamometer, various test applications can be realised on one system including:

  • Powertrain testing of innovative driveline configurations, including Hybrid and Kinetic Energy recovery systems - enabling complex energy flow strategy developments,
  • ABS brake and TCS traction control system testing
  • Corner simulation for differential and driveline testing.
  • Vehicle collision avoidance systems - operational testing

Our 48" Chassis Dynamometer provides solutions for in-vehicle powertrain testing, both for conventional, hybrid or electric vehicle applications. Our solution provides an extremely accurate, repeatable and responsive electrical inertia simulation vehicle test system. The chassis dynamometer utilises an AC motor centrally mounted between the rolls that provides a compact, low maintenance design. All components are mounted on a single substantial steel underframe providing rigidity, low vibration and ease of installation.

The chassis dynamometer control system includes several automated routines to test and validate all the main performance criteria. Our chassis dynamometer solutions are also available for truck and motorcycle applications
