All Wheel Drive Testing

Various regulatory institutions worldwide specialise in the development and implementation of new regulations for vehicle testing.  These include all aspects of the vehicle’s impact on the environment:

  • Exhaust Emission levels
  • Emission control equipment durability
  • Fuel economy
  • Noise levels
  • EMC
  • Driver safety and comfort

Froude Hofmann provides a range of specially designed, road simulation chassis dynamometers to perform in various applications.

Main Features

  • Climatic – using suitable materials and components and specialised insulation, these chassis dynamometers are installed in chambers simulating extremes of temperature (-30°C to +60°C) and full environmental conditions including altitude simulation.
  • NVH – A unique acoustically dead roll construction together with special attention to design details and installation ensures the chassis dynamometer operates at extremely low noise, typically <45dB. This is particularly important when testing the noise of the vehicle in a Semi Anechoic Chamber as the dynamometer must not affect the noise level and noise quality under investigation.
  • EMC – Special tests for the vehicle’s susceptibility to high energy electromagnetic fields is performed in a specially constructed chamber.  The chassis dynamometer is usually of 4x4 independent configuration allowing ABS testing.  The design of the chassis dynamometer is such that it will operate in these arduous conditions and also will not emit EM radiation into the test chamber.  The dynamometer is usually mounted on a turntable to enable the test vehicle to be orientated for the specific area of susceptibility.
